‘Cats are 6-0 in CAL with wins over Antelope, Cordova
Credit Whitney High baseball coach Rob Dorchak for keeping his Wildcats focused on the task ahead after going 18-0 on the heels of a 13-2 victory over Cordova Friday and Antelope Tuesday.
Whitney was in a tight race with Antelope, a team that had suffered only two losses this season – both to Whitney. The Wildcats beat the Titans 3-2 (story online at placerherald.com) and then traveled to Antelope for a third matchup Wednesday.
Although it might have been easy to let down against the 8-8-1 Lancers (1-3 league), the ‘Cats would have no part of it.
Josh Little went five innings giving up just five hits and none for extra bases. The junior handed out six strikeouts to help his cause. Tim Snook came on in the sixth inning to close out the game.
JR Robinson crushed two doubles in the game to drive in two runs and was 3-for-3 on the day. Aaron Winter picked up an RBI with a double and two base hits.
Trevor Abrams delivered a solo home run and scored four runs; Robinson crossed the plate three times.
El Camino — Robinson scattered nine hits and got solid support from his defense to keep El Camino from mounting a comeback for a 7-2 victory in league play April 10.
The Wildcats jumped on the Eagles for five runs in the first and second innings and then stifled any potential rally by the visitors. PJ Floyd opened the bottom of the first inning with a single and came home on Robinson’s double. Abrams then reached second on an Eagles’ error allowing Robinson to score.
In the second inning, Austin Harris led off with a base hit and reached third on back-to-back sacrifice bunts by Chris Schwarz and Brandon Espley. Floyd then brought Harris home with a single, Floyd scored on Little’s hit, and Little came home when Robinson singled and El Camino allowed Little to score on an overthrow at third base.
That put the ‘Cats up 5-0 and sealed the victory.
Robinson finished with four runs batted in and one double. Drew Romo and Jared Roskelley both scored a run.
Robinson pitched six innings and Ben Murphy closed in the seventh. The two combined for five strikeouts.
