Semi truck crashed over center divide on I-80 in Rocklin
Both I-80 directions were nearly shut down Thursday afternoon as a semi-truck driver lost control and crashed into the center divide. The accident displaced the trailer from the cab with both ending up on the freeway’s east and westbound lanes.
The driver is reported safe with no injuries, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials.
The accident occurred at approximately 12:25 p.m. Thursday. According to CHP officials, the cause was related to wet weather.
CHP Officer Mike Salazar was first on scene as CHP and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) were the responding agencies.
“Right now, we have one lane open at Rocklin Road heading westbound and two open heading eastbound,” Salazar said early Thursday afternoon.
“In terms of the cause, this was simply a wet weather accident,” Salazar said.
Crews and towing vehicles arrived at 1:15 p.m. to clean up and remove the large semi-truck trailer.
Caltrans officials were on scene assessing the damage of the interstate’s center divide, which sustained damage and is now openly exposed. according to officials.
Although Salazar said that the investigation is ongoing, as of Thursday afternoon, he said that this is “an open and shut case involving an accident in very poor conditions for driving.”
