2nd fatality in Newcastle-I-80 wrong-way crash ID'd
By: Gus Thomson, Journal Staff Writer
A female driver killed in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 80 at Newcastle was identified today by the Placer County Coroner's Office. Identification and contact of next of kin was delayed because the coroner's office had to use dental records. Jessica Ann Faber, 18, of Huntington Beach, was identified as the second victim in the 3:30 a.m. crash on eastbound Interstate 80. On Tuesday, the California Highway Patrol reported that California State University, Long Beach student Christopher Dann, 21, of Auburn was driving the wrong way on the freeway before his car collided with the vehicle driven by Faber. Faber and Dann died at the scene of the crash. Faber's car burned after the collision. A passenger in Faber's vehicle - 23-year-old Gregory Wessels - was taken to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento with burns and other major injuries. He was listed in serious condition after admission. Faber had initially been identified as a Truckee resident by the Highway Patrol. The Journal will provide updates as more information becomes available.
