The Rocklin Hype, a 10-and-under softball team, went 5-0 at the 2008 NSA Fall Championship in Elk Grove recently. “We won our first tournament that we went to this year and we’ve been fairly successful, in the top-3, in our tournaments,” Hype manager Dave Emerson said. “But the girls kind of put it all together for this one and it was probably the biggest tournament we’ve played in all year. Great defense and they hit the ball really well.” The Hype roster includes Amber Budmark, Chandler Emerson, Cynthia Garcia, Sarah Hansen, Lily Laudeman, Bailey Lewis, Dylan Linton, Katie Manley, Paige Murchison, Paige Powell, Annie Sisler and Celeste Verdolivo. Verdolivo is Rocklin’s ace pitcher and Emerson said “she carries our team.” The Hype will wrap up their season this weekend as they are playing in the 10U AAA State Championships from Friday through Sunday in Fremont. Fifteen teams participated in the NSA Fall Championship and the Hype earned a birth in the 2009 NSA World Series Tournament in Washington with their play. Rocklin beat the East County Hot Shots (7-1), Carson Valley Hot Shots (14-2), Manteca Team Unity (3-0) and the Galt Illusion (6-1 and 5-2) at the NSA Fall Championship. Verdolivo was Rocklin’s top pitcher throughout the tournament while Garcia and Sisler also had success from the circle.
