A Nevada County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrested two burglary suspects believed to be tied to at least 10 Placer County thefts during a midnight stop. Jason Bianchi, 24, and Chelsey Peckham, 22, were arrested for suspicion of burglary Jan. 29 after a deputy on patrol reportedly interrupted a burglary in progress in the Higgins business district in Nevada County. As the deputy was contacting Peckham, who was seated in the driver’s seat of a vehicle, he reported that Bianchi appeared inside the closed business and fled on foot. The deputy chased Bianchi for about several hundred yards before catching him and placing him in custody, officials said. Peckham reportedly fled the scene but was later stopped when authorities recognized the vehicle description and license plate number. Based on evidence found in the vehicle, officials issued a search warrant to inspect the suspects’ residence. They reportedly found a large amount of stolen property related to numerous vehicle thefts and burglaries. Placer County Sheriff’s Office investigators estimate clearing 10 cases as a result of the arrest. Grass Valley Police Department officials say they could clear five cases and Nevada County Sheriff’s Office investigators believe they will solve more than 25 cases with the evidence. Anybody who has recently been a victim of a previously unreported theft from their vehicle or home is urged to contact the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit. — Jenifer Gee
