The California Blues Soccer Club held a Wembly Family fundraiser for the Placer Youth Soccer League at Foskett Field, Lincoln this past weekend. Volunteer Beth Popham said the funds would be used to help pay for the new soccer stadium being built in Roseville. The California Blues is a nonprofit club fielding U8 through U18 teams in competitive soccer. The club has over 30 teams and 400 players. The event was open to all, whether Blues soccer players or otherwise. A number of activities were held, including an adult 3-on-3 competition, a Beat the Keeper match, Goal-a –thon, and Juggle-a-thon. Winners in each of the events received a Wembly Winner’s T-shirt. There was also a booth were participants could drop off old equipment for Jersey and Cleats for Kids program. This used gear is donated to less fortunate players and other countries, such as Mexico. Popham said Wembly is the name of a soccer stadium in London, England, and is the umbrella organization under which the California Blues are associated.
