Carter is latest Rocklin athlete to sign a letter of intent
Rocklin High senior, Leah Carter, signed a National Letter of Intent with University of Nevada Reno last week for track and field. Carter will participate as an NCAA scholarship athlete with the Wolf Pack.
As a three-year standout in the high jump, Carter cleared 5 feet 7 inches last season to lead the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section divisions II and III. Her nearest competitor came in at 5-3.
Carter, coached by Matt Eckman and Roosevelt Kent, was named MVP in field events from 2009 through 2012. In 2011, Carter had the highest jump in California State competition.
Carter had several offers from other track and field programs but settled on Nevada. She plans to major in nursing.
“I chose Nevada because they have both great track and a great nursing program,” Carter said. “The Mountain West Conference is a very competitive conference.”
She is excited to move to the collegiate level of play in Reno and looks forward to continuing her athletic career at the NCAA Division I level.
Carter is the daughter of Barbara and Philip Carter of Rocklin.
