Chamber of Commerce celebrates leadership and legacy
By: Robin Trimble, Rocklin Area Chamber of Commerce CEO
This month we celebrate some of our country’s greatest and most enduring leaders. Leaders like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln who had the foresight and courage to guide our nation forward and face difficult issues head on. Our Founding Fathers did not let the grass grow under their feet when it came to leading our nation. They challenged the status quo and considered their actions for the long term, and in doing so, created a legacy of lasting leadership. In our own community, we have the privilege of working with leaders who have that same vision and insight. We applaud leaders like Carlos Urrutia and the Rocklin City Council who have helped build a strong foundation for the city of Rocklin and created an enduring legacy for future generations. Leadership is an important responsibility in every family, business enterprise or community and without it; many groups flounder, rather than flourish. As seasoned staff retires in the city of Rocklin, leadership may take on new forms. Like a well-run business, a well-run city takes the efforts of everyone working together and doing their part, and at the Rocklin Chamber, we look forward to doing our part to support a legacy of strong leadership in the years to come. On Feb. 26, we invite the community to join us for the annual State of the City event. Economic development and new leadership are just two of the important topics that will be presented at this year’s address where City Manager Carlos Urrutia will provide an update on residential and commercial development, 2009 accomplishments and the current economic situation and its impact on the overall budget. State of the City will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26 at Coach’s Restaurant, inside Strikes Family Entertainment Center at 5681 Lonetree Blvd. in Rocklin. Individual tickets are $50 for members and $60 for non-members and includes a buffet lunch. Register online at www. RocklinChamber.com or by fax to 624-5743. For more information, contact the Chamber at 624-2548. In the wise words of Lincoln, establishing a strong foundation for today, creates a lasting legacy for tomorrow. Prudent, sound leadership never goes out of style. “You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.” – Abraham Lincoln.
