Rocklin Academy and Western Sierra Collegiate Academy students took home Imagination awards recently. At the March 5 Destination Imagination regional competition in Roseville, Western Sierra Collegiate Academy’s “Speaking Gibberish” team took first place in the middle division and earned the DaVinci Award for outstanding creativity. Rocklin Academy’s Destination Imagination team, “Naughty Magical Ostriches” took first place in the elementary division. Three second place awards went to “The Shadows,” “The Originals” and “The Fantastics,” all Rocklin Academy elementary division teams. Western Sierra and Rocklin Academy’s winning teams will advance to the state finals April 9 in Oakhurst. Winners at the state level are invited to global finals in May at the University of Tennessee. “We are very proud of the wonderful performance and admirable teamwork of the ‘Naughty Magical Ostriches,’” said Jane Weaver, team manager. “They worked together magically as a cohesive team through five months of hard work, spending many hours planning, creating and rehearsing for their challenges. I’m thrilled that their hard work paid off, and everyone is excited to compete at the State Tournament to represent this region and Rocklin Academy.” Destination Imagination is an international, extra-curricular K-12 club that promotes creative problem solving and teamwork as students work on a variety of improvisational challenges. Teams are kid-powered with up to seven participants. ~Staff report
