Christian music tour stops in Rocklin
Three big names in contemporary Christian music will bring their songs to Destiny Christian Church Tuesday.
“American Idol” finalist Jason Castro will perform, as will Dara Maclean, singer of hits “Suitcases” and “Free.” One of the industry’s fastest-rising acts, For King and Country, will take the stage to present their debut album, “Crave.” Billboard named the duo one of the top 20 new artists of 2012.
The brothers, Luke and Joel Smallbone, were born in Australia but have lived in Nashville most of their lives. They grew up around music, but Luke said it wasn’t until a torn ACL ended his high school basketball dreams that his brother approached him with the idea to start a musical duo.
“We grew up in a Christian family and we grew up with the understanding that music has significant power,” he ex-plained, when asked why they chose to enter the Christian music scene. “We wanted to be able to use music as a way to impact people’s lives.”
They released “Crave” in February 2012 and have been climbing the charts since with their single “The Proof of Your Love.” This tour includes more than 30 performances, and Luke said the response so far has been extremely positive.
Castro has performed in multiple countries since his “Idol” days, and his self-titled debut album entered the Billboard Top 200 Album chart at No. 18. He expects to release his second studio album in early 2013.
Maclean’s debut album, “You Got My Attention,” features “Suitcases,” which hit the Top 20 and earned her the attention of Christian radio and the music industry.
Fans who support the concert will also support Compassion International, a child advocacy program that “releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled adults,” according to the organization’s website.
Destiny’s creative arts pastor, Kent Ferrin, said the 1,200-seat venue is a popular one for Christian music fans, as its high-quality production system makes for great sound. The concert is hosted by radio station 103.9 The FISH.
Ferrin said that not only are concerts like this one a great way for church members to enjoy good music, they’re also an opportunity for people to get to know Destiny Christian Church.
“We like to open up our doors because it gives people who are not a part of our church the chance to come into our building and see our facility, see what we have, and they might choose to continue to check us out on a Sunday.”
