The city of Rocklin has announced that the 2013 Ruhkala Community Service Awards will be presented Thursday, May 2, at the Rocklin Event Center, 2650 Sunset Blvd. The ceremony will start at 6 p.m.
The city is soliciting nominations for the Ruhkala awards. To make a nomination, visit www.rocklin.ca.us and complete the online nomination form or submit a written statement explaining the contributions the nominated person, business or group has made to the city of Rocklin. The City Clerk will accept nominations until 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at City Hall, 3980 Rocklin Road.
The Roy and Peggy Ruhkala Community Service Awards are named for two individuals who worked for the betterment of the Rocklin community for more than 40 years. During those years they led or were involved in almost every community improvement activity.
The city created the Roy and Peggy Ruhkala Community Service Awards to remember their efforts and to recognize recent community service efforts of others in the Rocklin community. There are four categories of awards:
Individual or Couple: An individual or couple who have made a significant contribution to the Rocklin community through community service.
Business, Group or Service Organization: A business, group or service organization that has made a significant contribution to the Rocklin community through community service.
Pioneer Award: This award is made at the discretion of the City Council to individuals who have, over an extended period of time, made significant contributions to the Rocklin community through community service. This award is intended to recognize long-term commitment to the betterment of Rocklin.
Youth Award: This annual award is made to an individual, 18 years old or younger, or a group or organization whose members are 18 years old or younger that has made a significant contribution to the Rocklin community through community service.
