Cobblestone Elementary throws Earth Day assembly

-A +A
Some of Cobblestone Elementary School’s youngest students recently gave fellow classmates a lesson on being green. As part of the elementary school’s celebration of Earth Day, the kindergarten and first-grade students held a school-wide assembly encouraging ways to recycle and reuse. “They sang songs that really expressed things that they are doing to help the Earth,” said kindergarten teacher Karen Hogans. Students created signs that read “keep Cobblestone clean” and made signs from recycled cereal boxes, giving other students examples of ways to help Mother Nature. Ideas included walking on the sidewalk instead of on the grass, planting trees and using both sides of paper. Students also created bird feeders from recycled bird feeders. Hogans said the students became excited with the projects, even transferring Earth-friendly practices from school to their home and community, she said. — Lauren Weber
