Practice meet readies Wildcats
In spite of a cold wind blowing the Whitney High swim team demonstrated a lot of promise while hosting Woodcreek High in a practice meet last Thursday. The Wildcats will be at Woodcreek for a Roseville invitational meet this Friday. Whitney senior Colleen Daley looks to have a great season this year having already qualified in the 500 free with a time of 5:48.05, 100 butterfly (1:04.49) and 100 freestyle (57.53). Her sister, Colleen Daley, a freshman, qualified for sections in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.08. Boys head swim coach Steve Casperite has high hopes for senior Nick Laughlin. The Wildcats’ senior is a strong swimmer showing solid promise in the butterfly. Girls head swim coach Kari Ustaszewski-Begley said their All-American swimmer Loree Olson has accepted a full-ride scholarship to the University of Washington. Olson, a senior, will swim for the Huskies in the fall.
