Concerned citizens foil Safeway heist

-A +A
Concerned citizens used their phones to break up a shoplifting heist at Safeway on Granite Drive last week as the manager reportedly chased the suspects across the parking lot. According to the police report, the assistant store manager confronted 20-year-old Troy Roger Oreta after he allegedly left the store about 5:30 p.m. Sept. 15 with more than $42 worth of groceries without paying. That’s when Oreta jumped into a waiting GMC Yukon allegedly driven by 18-year-old Alicia Marie Bortolazzo. The pair escaped through the parking lot with the unnamed manager chasing them. Two separate passersby called 911 to report the incident. One followed the suspects as they allegedly ran a stop light and traveled in oncoming traffic to get away, according to the report. A responding officer caught up to the two a little over a mile away at Freeman Circle and El Don Drive. Oreta and Bortolazzo were identified on scene by the manager and arrested for burglary and conspiracy to commit a crime. ~ Jon Brines
