Entries for three contests held during Rocklin?s annual Hot Chili and Cool Cars Festival are still being accepted. This year?s festival, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17, will feature a Kids? Chili Pepper Contest as well as the traditional Chili Cook-Off and car show. New this year is a Kids? Chili Pepper Contest, said Rocklin Area Chamber of Commerce staff member Julie Reyes. ?Kids are encouraged to come dressed as a chili pepper,? she said. Following a short parade, contestants, up to age 15, will take the stage at noon and the top three best-dressed chili peppers will be crowned. Returning for his fifth consecutive year will be Richard Hall, who will be showcasing his 4-door, turquoise 1939 Oldsmobile, complete with red, orange and white flames on the hood and fenders. The custom rims are also decorated with flames. ?I look forward to bringing my car out to Hot Chili & Cool Cars every year,? said Hall. ?I like that the event is local and I can join my neighbors and friends for a day of fun.? George Layne, manager of Rocklin?s California Transmissions, is looking to claim another trophy for his famous chili recipe. Layne and his sister, Chrystal O?Bryan, the self-proclaimed chili champions, have claimed the People?s Choice award at the festival for three consecutive years as well as 19 chili awards over the years. To enter the Chili Pepper, Cool Car or Chili cook-off contests, visit the Rocklin Area Chamber of Commerce?s website at In addition to the contests, the day?s festivities include food and craft booths, local business booths, entertainment and a kids? corner with bounce houses, climbing wall and face painting. RC Willey and Five Star Auto Care are back this year as Title Sponsors.
