Teammates, family, and friends gathered at Whitney High School, Oct. 26, where Wildcats’ football standout Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick was presented with his invitation to play in the Under Armor All-America Game, Jan. 5. The privilege came after a selection committee picked out Cope-Fitzpatrick from among the players filmed at various football camps around the country. He will play in the game as a tight end. “I’m definitely looking forward to it,” said Cope-Fitzpatrick, after Whitney defeated Cordova last Friday night. “It’s not just the football part, but also the extra-curricular activities.” With the game being played in St. Petersburg, Fla., the players will likely get to visit Disney World as part of the benefits of participating. Cope-Fitzpatrick said he would probably be taking a number of trips prior to the event as part of the game’s promotional tour. This is the fifth year the game will be played. It will be televised by ESPN, 3:30 p.m., Eastern Standard Time. Some of the previous notable participants were quarterbacks Matt Barkley (USC), and Oklahoma’s Landry Jones. NFL first-round draft picks Julio Jones and A.J. Green have also played in the game.
