Most Placer County offices will be closed Friday, Aug. 7 as a cost-saving measure. All county emergency response and 24-hour-a-day services will continue uninterrupted on Friday, including law enforcement and emergency support to individuals, such as child protective services. Friday is one of 12 days county offices will be closed during the 2009-10 fiscal year while approximately 2,200 county employees take unpaid, mandatory time off. The furlough days apply to three groups of employees: management, confidential and those represented by the Placer Public Employees Organization. The 12 furlough days will help the county balance its budget for the fiscal year that began July 1. On Friday, Placer County Transit, Placer Commuter Express and Tahoe Area Regional Transit will follow normal schedules. All branches of the Placer County Library will be closed on Friday, but will reopen on Saturday, Aug. 8.
