Cupcake benefit raises $3,000

-A +A
Icing on the Cupcake fans helped raise $3,000 on March 24 to help the family of Georgetown resident Vincent Paquet. Diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer prior to Christmas, Paquet died the week before the fundraiser. With no health insurance, the family struggled to pay mounting hospital bills and funeral expenses. Co-owner Christee Owens, a childhood friend of the family, scheduled the day-long fundraiser at the Pacific Street store. Proceeds from all sales at the original store on that day were donated to the Paquet family. “In terms of numbers, that’s about 1,000 cupcakes,” said Heather Atherton, a spokesperson for the business. “Around 5 p.m. (two hours before closing), there was a steady stream of people coming into the store.”
