A Citrus Heights man riding his bicycle on Sierra College Boulevard collided with a pick up truck at approximately 1 p.m. on Wednesday. James Heath, 76, of Citrus Heights was riding his 20-speed bicycle on Sierra College Boulevard north of Old Auburn Road near Granite Bay. According to witnesses, Heath was riding northbound in the marked bicycle lane when he turned left out of the bicycle lane, across the right lane and into the right side of a pick-up truck. The pick-up was traveling north in the left lane of Sierra College Boulevard at approximately 40 mph. The driver of the Pacific Bell Co. pick-up was Gerald Thomas, 38, of Rocklin. Heath suffered major injuries to his head and chest and was transported via ambulance to Sutter Roseville Medical Center. He was wearing a bicycle helmet at the time of the collision. Thomas did not suffer injuries. The investigation is on going.
