A Sacramento attorney announced Wednesday that he would no longer seek the District Attorney position in Placer. Scott Triplett, a deputy district attorney for Sacramento County, said he was withdrawing from the race for Placer County District Attorney. “The past eight months have been exciting, and I value the tremendous support I have received from family, friends, community leaders and most of all the citizens of Placer County,” Triplett said in a prepared statement. “However, for personal reasons I have decided to end my candidacy. I wish the next District Attorney the best of luck — and success — in keeping Placer County a great place to live.” In May, Triplett announced he would run against Scott Owens, a deputy district attorney for Placer County. Triplett’s withdrawal means Owens is running unopposed. Owens announced he would seek the position in June 2008. Voters will go to the polls in the June primary election to choose the next district attorney. ~ Jenifer Gee
