The visiting Del Oro High Eagles varsity soccer team moved past Rocklin in the Sierra Foothill League standings with a 3-2 victory on Thursday. The Eagles are now 3-1-1 while the Thunder are 3-2. Each team has one more match remaining in the first half of the league season. Rocklin will play at Nevada Union on Tuesday while Del Oro will host Roseville on Tuesday, both matches at 3:30 p.m. Rocklin is 12-4-1 overall while Del Oro is 5-4-2. Del Oro’s Casey Meuser scored from long range just one minute into the match and Rocklin’s Noe Romero tied the score about eight minutes later. The rest of the half was physical but scoreless. The Eagles Kolby Mitnick took advantage of an opportunity and scored five minutes into the second half to put his team up 2-1. He scored again with about eight minutes left in the match to make it 3-1. Rocklin’s Chris Streeter scored on a header to set the final score with about two minutes left. “We haven’t played down very often,” Rocklin coach Grant Depue said. “We were impatient (because they were trailing), very impatient. “(Del Oro) did a very good job – every 50-50 ball they had a man on it. They came hungry.” Depue knows some teams will be gunning for Rocklin in the second half. Rocklin beat Woodcreek 4-0, Oakmont 5-0 and Roseville 5-2 in the first half of league play. “We can’t be lackadaisical – ‘we beat this team 5-0 or something’ – the other coaches will adjust and do different things with us,” Depue said. The top three SFL teams will make the playoffs and the other contenders appear to be Granite Bay (5-0) and Roseville (2-2-1).
