Don’t forget to vote for The Placer Herald’s Player of the Month for December. Readers can vote for one of three candidates at the bottom of the front page of beginning Thursday, Jan. 8. Voting lasts from Jan.8 through Jan. 22 and the results will be printed in the Jan. 29 edition of The Placer Herald. The December candidates are Rocklin High’s Brendan Lane (boys basketball) and Katie Summers (girls basketball) and Whitney High’s Jordan Wilson (boys basketball). Lane, 6-foot-10 and headed to UCLA next year, is averaging 23.2 points per game. The senior center has helped the Thunder go 14-2 so far and they are expected to be very strong in the Sierra Foothill League this season. The Wildcats had a successful pre-league season and senior guard/forward Jordan Wilson was a major reason why. First-year coach Bryce Newell will rely on Wilson’s consistent scoring in the Pioneer Valley League season. Rocklin junior guard Katie Summers has been named to the all-tournament team in three of the four tournaments that the Thunder have played in. Katie, who is averaging 11 points per game, was the MVP of two of those tournaments. Whitney running back Zack Graves was voted the Player of the Month for September while Rocklin soccer player Tyler Garrison was the winner for October. Rocklin cross country runner Zachary Zadrozna won in November.
