In an effort to decrease drinking and driving, the Roseville Police Department will set up a DUI/ drivers license checkpoint Saturday, according to a press release. The checkpoint will be in effect from about 6 p.m. to midnight and will be set up at an undisclosed location where a number of alcohol-related arrests have occurred in the past. Roseville Police Department spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther said the checkpoint is an effort to reduce the numerous tragedies where drivers are injured or killed in alcohol related accidents. “The purpose is to remind people to get a designated driver,” Gunther said. Traffic volume permitting, all vehicles may be checked and drivers who are under the influence of alcohol or other drugs will be arrested, according to the press release. The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver, Gunther said. Josh Fernandez can be reached at joshf@goldcountrymedia.com.
