Despite optimism that a state budget would be finalized before Wednesday’s school board meeting, Superintendent Kevin Brown told board members he has no more information from the state than he had two weeks ago. But he said the board is still moving forward and preparing for what could be to come. “We are in the process of at least preparing notices,” Brown said. March 15 is the cutoff for sending out preliminary reduction in force notices, with final notices sent out before May 15. “There’s so many uncertainties,” Brown said. Until the state approves a budget, board members agree on one thing. “Keep the community informed,” board member Greg Daley said. Board member Wendy Lang said she’d like to have as much feedback from community members before March 15 as possible. Board president Todd Lowell agreed, adding that there has been district and internal input but no external input yet. Brown and board members are looking to schedule community meetings within the next few weeks.
