Fall festival raises funds for veterans

Mistywood Retirement Community is hosting a Fall Festival and Holiday Craft Boutique from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 1275 Pleasant Grove Blvd. in Roseville. A pancake and waffle breakfast will be served from 7 to 9 a.m. Cost is $8 per person. At 8 a.m., Sacramento State student Shanelle Katzman will be featured in a classical piano concert. The holiday craft boutique, featuring vendors offering handcrafted items, will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Complimentary snacks made by the community chef will be served. Sierra Music Academy students will be presenting a piano recital from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. At the end of the day, a raffle of items donated by vendors will be held. Highlight of the afternoon will be a classical guitar concert featuring recording artist Christopher Dean from Southern California starting at 2 p.m. A former member of the “Night Sounds,” Dean has opened for “The Doors” and “ The Rascals.” as well as for the “Rolling Stones.” In the past 10 years, Dean has pursued performances centered around his study of Scottish and Irish traditional music as well as contemporary folk music on solo fingerstyle guitar. Holiday Retirement Corporation, the parent company of Mistywood Retirement Community is pairing with the Outward Bound for Veterans program to raise funds for veterans returning from current wars. They will be matching dollar for dollar any funds raised to help vets transition back into civilian life by helping them pursue employment and connect with other veterans.
