First-grade class organizes e-waste drop off at Twin Oaks

-A +A
For the month of April, Twin Oaks Elementary School students have been asking people to do some spring-cleaning and clear out unwanted computes, television sets, cell phones and other e-waste. First-grade teacher Jeni Weeks started her students on a Service Learning project collecting e-waste and donating it to SIMS Recycling Solutions for recycling. The money raised goes directly to the classrooms to purchase supplies such as paper and glue. “We always need supplies. We need all that we can get, always,” Weeks said. But an added bonus was the kids are having fun doing it. “The kids really like doing things for their school,” she said. Through Earth Day on April 22, the school will continue collecting items dropped off in two large boxes inside the school’s multi-purpose room. So far they have raised more than $300 and hope to reach a goal of $500 by the end. The public is welcome to donate at the school’s site through April 22. Twin Oaks Elementary School is located at 2835 Club Drive in Rocklin. For more information, call 624-4101. – Lauren Weber
