At Hues Hair and Skin Salon, it’s about more than leaving with just-cut and styled locks, it’s also about customer service. Clients entering the Rocklin salon are not only greeted with a friendly hello, but also offered something to drink. Their beverages include more than 20 types of tea, said owner and master stylist Julie Pearson. The hair wash stations offer clients the option for a chair massage while their hair is being washed. Pearson said the small details really pamper her customers. “Going to the salon is a treat for people,” she said. That’s why she also bans all stylist phone calls on the floor and also calls clients with a quick reminder about their upcoming appointments. What also keeps people coming back to Hues is their devotion to education. “I’m big on education,” Pearson said. “We give a lot of continued education. I’m still learning.” Pearson has been a stylist for 30 years and opened Hues eight years ago. With 11 stations and about six stylists, Pearson keeps her employees well trained, paying for workshops and continuing their education. She also believes in hands-on training. “Beauty school basically teaches you how to pass the state board,” Pearson said. “I believe in sharing knowledge, not watching people fail. Two heads are better than one.” Customer Teresa Maher said she appreciates the professionalism and friendliness of Hues staff, as well as Pearson. “She truly listens to what I want, but always gives me ideas that I had not considered,” said Maher, who has been going to Hues salon for about five years. Maher said it’s also convenient to shop for skin and hair products at Hues. The salon sells product brands including Bumble and Bumble and KMS California hair care products and Jan Marini and Jane Iredale skincare products. Hues also offers more than just a hair cut and color — facials, waxing treatments, makeup application and products, massages and private parties are also offered. Three lucky mothers will also be pampered with Hues services for the salon’s Mother’s Day giveaway. People can nominate a deserving mom in an essay, 500 words or less, and drop it off at the shop before Mother’s Day, which is May 10. The three prizes include a day of beauty with a facial, haircut and color and makeup application; another woman will receive a massage and another will receive a haircut and blowout. The Mother’s Day event is one example of how Pearson reaches out to the community of Rocklin. Approximately $6,000 was raised in one day to help a former Hues employee’s fight against stage-four cancer a few years ago. Pearson’s employee fought for two years before she lost the battle. Another client of Pearson’s was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease a few years ago. She’s been a long-time client who comes into the salon every few months and gets her hair done free of charge, Pearson said. Pearson said it’s just one example of how she’s been able to help those in need. “I believe in giving back,” she said. “It’s fun to make people’s day like that.” Hues Hair and Skin Salon Mother’s Day giveaway — Nominate a deserving mom for a Hues makeover; drop off a 500-word or less essay on why she deserves it; essays will be accepted until Mother’s Day Where: 6015 Fairway Drive, Rocklin Contact: (916) 624-6404 Website: www.hues
