Granite Bay graduate Loder now 27-2 for Northern Iowa wrestling
Ryan Loder recorded two technical falls Sunday to help the University of Northern Iowa defeat North Dakota State 22-18 and South Dakota State 25-12 in Western Wrestling Conference dual meets in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Loder, a Granite Bay High School graduate, improved to 27-2 this season by beating Mac Stoll of North Dakota State 16-1 and Troy Morrisette of South Dakota State 17-2. Loder is ranked sixth in the nation at 184 pounds. He’s 11-1 in dual meets this season and shares the team lead in technical falls (six) with 133-pounder Joe Colon.
Loder edged Boaz Beard of Iowa State 1-0 on Friday.
Northern Iowa will compete in the NWCA National Duals Regional this weekend in Ames, Iowa.
Local golfer wins The First Tee event
Corey Eddings, an Oakmont sophomore, shot a 1-over-par 73 to win the overall boys championship in The First Tee of Greater Sacramento Junior Tour event last weekend at Timber Creek in Roseville.
Logan Lowe and Alex Lee each shot 74 and shared the medalist honor in the 14-15 age group.
Michael Grenz carded a 75 to win the boys 16-18 division with Granite Bay golfers Brandon Baumgarten and Alex Gibbs finishing second and third at 77 and 79.
Bryan Baumgarten, Austin Long and Michael Tan fired 81s to share the 12-13 title.
Nichole Cruz shot an even-par 73 to win the overall girls championship.
Virgie Velasquez of Roseville won the 15-18 group with an 82. Clare Sorensen of Roseville was second with an 85 and Camille Wagg of Rocklin third at 88. In girls 12-14, Brittany O’Bryant won with an 83.
Jessup scores first road victory
Junior Jordan Wilson of Rocklin scored 19 points and Granite Bay graduate Anthony Anderson had 13 as William Jessup University defeated Menlo 70-52 on Thursday in Atherton.
It was the first road win of the season for the Warriors (10-13 overall, 5-3 California Pacific Conference).
Jessup will play host to Cal State Maritime at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Rocklin.

Woodcreek High School will hold freshman registration night from 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 5. Athletic information for all sports will be available from 7-8 p.m. in the gym.
