Granite Oaks students collecting items for children in the hospital
The eighth-grade California Junior Scholarship Federation Leadership group at Granite Oaks Middle School, Caring 4 Kids, is holding a donation drive of entertaining and necessary items for children in the UC Davis Medical Center.
Caring 4 Kids is a service learning group run by students. The main goal is to provide items to entertain children (ages 0-18) at the UC Davis Children's Medical Ward with various items and toys. Some diseases that afflict these children are cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia and. Caring 4 Kids is holding a school-wide drive of items, and the group wants to get the community involved, as well. There is a donation drop-off, open for anyone who wishes to contribute, in the front office of Granite Oaks Middle School, 2600 Wyckford Blvd.
There are six different categories of items to drop off: infant (rattles, pacifiers), toddler (jumbo wooden puzzles, board books, safety scissors), preschool (plastic dinosaurs, clay, big crayons, construction paper), school-age (action figures, markers, water color paints) and teenage children. (nail polish, teen magazines, knit and baseball hats, makeup, Legos, puzzles books, movies).
There are 50 occupied beds at the hospital, and the patients would love to receive items that would make their stay more comfortable. This is why Caring 4 Kids feels it is necessary to supply them with fun toys, games, movies, and drawing materials
The drive continues through May 17.
