Granite Oaks students medal at regional Science Olympiad

Students from Granite Oaks Middle School and Rocklin High School earned medals for their entries at the regional Science Olympiad event held March 20 at the Sacramento State campus. Edith Chavez and Skyler Osborn of Granite Oaks, won gold medals in the Solar System event. The Granite Oaks team is coached by R. David Klingensmith and John Yanni. Rocklin High students Liza Polyudova and Jeffrey Seyfried won silver medals in the Technical Problem Solving event. The Rocklin High team is coached by Geoffrey Clarion, Bill Kimmel, Paul Werner and Dan Frank. Science Olympiad tournaments consist of science events in biology, earth science, chemistry, physics and technology. The events require science concept knowledge and process skills, according to the Science Olympiad Web site. ~ Staff report
