Rocklin students and parents can breath a sigh of relief — the H1N1 vaccine is coming to a school near you. The Placer County Health Department is providing three free swine flu vaccine clinics for students within Rocklin Unified School District, starting Nov. 19 and going into January. According to Betty Di Regolo, director of special education and special programs at RUSD, the district has seen pretty steady absences due to possible H1N1 outbreaks across the elementary and middle schools. Parents have reported their children with temperatures, Di Regolo said, and when children reach that point, it’s advised for them to stay home. Di Regolo said the district’s clinics are open to first-grade through 12th-grade students only and will include both nasal and injections of the H1N1 vaccine. Vaccination clinics will take place from 3:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19 at Spring View Middle School, 5040 Fifth St.; from 3-7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14 at Rocklin High School, 5301 Victory Lane; and a date and location in January 2010 to be determined. RUSD will provide a free shuttle bus during the clinic hours that will stop at Rocklin Elementary, 5025 Meyers St.; Live Oak Trailer Park, 4221 Pacific St.; Woodside/Sequoia; Antelope Creek Elementary, 6185 Springview Drive; and Sammy Way. For a student to receive the H1N1 vaccine, the parent must read both vaccination information sheets, answer all the questions on the consent form accurately and return the signed consent form to the student’s school immediately, even though the parent intends to accompany the student to the clinic (which is encouraged). Di Regolo said they’re hoping approximately half of the students within the district will take advantage of the free vaccinations.
