Hearty lunch, breakfast served up at Venita Rhea’s

-A +A
It’s like a step back in time and place going to Venita Rhea’s restaurant in Rocklin, where colorful murals of French countrysides dress the walls. The breakfast and lunch spot, with a menu full of omelettes, pancakes, burgers and salads, attracts a hungry crowd. Their breakfast menu includes breakfast burritos, many omelette choices including one with shredded pork, sour cream, pepper-jack cheese and avocado, banana nut pancakes and cinnamon roll French toast. For lunch, they offer build-your-own burgers, sandwiches such as tuna melt, French dip and club, and a taco salad served in a tortilla bowl. Owner Ralph Kim made the switch from customer to owner when he purchased the restaurant from Randy and Lisa Peters about three years ago. Part of what attracted him as a customer and Kim said now keeps customers coming back, is how the staff goes the extra mile. In addition to the extensive menu, guests can special order items such as a vegan lunch, Kim said. “I believe it’s good, fresh food and we have great customer service,” Kim said. “We serve high quality breakfasts and lunches.” Among the customer favorites are country-fried steak, ham and steak and the selection of benedicts and omelettes, Kim said. The restaurant is also full of personal touches – a sauce bar gives diners a choice of hot and sweet sauces to accompany their meal and a bowl of dog treats in the waiting area welcomes canines. The eatery also has a dog-friendly patio. The restaurant name of Venita Rhea’s goes back to when the Peters owned the spot. Venita was Randy Peters’ aunt – one of her passions was “good, down-home cooking.” She passed away in January of 2005. “She was a special person to me, our relationship was very special,” according to Randy Peters as displayed on the restaurant’s website. “In 1998, my wife, Lisa, and I purchased a restaurant in Rocklin. God impressed upon me to honor Venita by naming a restaurant after her. I loved and love Venita Rhea.” ~Lauren Gibbs Venita Rhea’s Where: 4415 Granite Drive, Rocklin Hours: Open for breakfast and lunch 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily Info: www.venitarheas.com; 624-2697
