Pioneer Valley League champion Colfax and runner-up Placer both reaped the benefits of successful seasons when the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section released its football playoff brackets Saturday afternoon. Colfax, the outright PVL champion with a record of 8-2, secured the No. 2 seed in the section's Div. IV B bracket while Placer, the PVL runners-up also at 8-2, ended being tagged as the No. 4 seed in Div. III. Colfax and Placer, both which will play home games next Friday, will be joined in the postseason by Bear River, Del Oro and Foresthill. Here's a capsule look at where the local area teams landed in the playoffs: Colfax (8-2) - The Falcons will host Orestimba (6-4) of the Trans Valley League next Friday. Orestimba defeated Ripon, 40-21, Friday night in a winner-take-all game for a Div. IV B playoff berth. If Colfax can notch a first round win, the Falcons would host the Argonaut-Hilmar winner on Nov. 19 in the quarter-finals. Escalon, 9-1, is the Div. IV B No. 1 seed. Placer (8-2) - The sixteen team Div. III bracket looks loaded with the likes of Manteca (9-1), Patterson (9-1), Pioneer (8-2), Casa Roble (7-3), Oakdale (7-3)and Del Oro (6-4). Placer will be hosting No. 13 Woodland, a team the Hillmen defeated, 58-20, back on Sept. 24. A first round Placer win would allow the Hillmen to host a second round game on Nov. 19 against either Oakdale or Christian Brothers. Bear River (7-3) - The Bruins landed in Div. IV A and has the No 6 seed drew a reasonable first round game playing Friday at Golden Empire League champion Marysville (7-3). With a win, Bear River would play either No. 2 seed Union Mine or No. 7 Sonora on Nov. 19. Del Oro (6-4) - The Golden Eagles drew a No. 11 seed in Div. III and will hit the road Friday playing at East Union of Manteca, the No. 6 seed. Del Oro, which captured a share of the Sierra Foothill League title, with a victory, would meet the Pioneer-Whitney winner on Dec. 19. Also in Div. III, No. 10 Lincoln visits No. 7 Yuba City and No. 14 Whitney plays at No. 3 Pioneer of Woodland. Foresthill (6-4) - Foresthill drew the No. 5 seed in Div. VI and will play at No. 4 Big Valley Christian of Modesto (8-2).
