The best season in Granite Bay High School boys basketball history continued Wednesday night with an 86-47 blowout of visiting Rocklin.

The Grizzlies moved within one game of at least sharing the Sierra Foothill League title with Woodcreek, an 85-65 winner over Nevada Union on Wednesday night. Granite Bay (23-3 overall, 8-1 SFL) finished the regular season at home Friday night against Del Oro. Woodcreek (22-4, 8-1) played host to Roseville.

Granite Bay swept the season series with Rocklin, having routed the Thunder 86-40 on Jan. 25.

Every member of the squad got court time on Senior Night, and everybody scored for the Grizzlies.

Senior Jon Davis led Granite Bay with 19 points, and he grabbed nine rebounds. Senior Kyle Howarth came off the bench and had a double double with 18 points and 12 boards. Howarth tied his varsity career high in scoring and had his first in-game dunk.

“After the dunk, I just felt really energized,” Howarth said. “I felt confident in my jump shot. I can usually hit it with pretty good consistency from around 15 feet. I just caught and shot pretty much.”

Rocklin (9-17, 3-6) scored the first basket and competed with Granite Bay for a bit, tying the score at 9. That’s when the Grizzlies got hot and blew past the Thunder, ending the first quarter on a 14-2 run for a 23-11 lead.

The Grizzlies’ defense wasn’t too shabby either, forcing 24 turnovers.
“Our kids did a good job of getting their hands up in the passing lane. They just worked hard,” Granite Bay coach Jason Sitterud said. “It was a good team effort.”

Granite Bay beat Rocklin 59-46 in the JV game. The Grizzlies were 22-2 overall and 9-0 in the SFL before Friday night’s season finale.
