A Loomis man is being held on $50,000 bail after reportedly almost hitting a police officer with a car. Shane Keller, 38, was booked in Placer County Jail Wednesday on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and felony evading of a police officer. At about 1 a.m., a Rocklin Police officer attempted to stop a vehicle near Granite Drive and Sierra Meadows Drive after observing erratic driving. The vehicle sped away from the officer and at one point, the vehicle spun out and came to rest bumper-to-front-bumper with the officer’s patrol car. While attempting to contact the driver, the officer had to jump out of the way to avoid being run over as the suspect’s vehicle sped away onto eastbound I-80. Upon exiting at Horseshoe Bar Road in Loomis and after a five-mile pursuit lasting about eight minutes with speeds reaching 80 mph on wet roads, Keller lost control and struck a tree in the 7000 block of Horseshoe Bar Road. The vehicle caught fire but was extinguished by officers on scene. Loomis Fire Department personnel extracted Keller from the vehicle. He was transported to Sutter Roseville Hospital. Keller was booked into Placer County Jail Wednesday afternoon and remains in custody on $50,000 bail. - Staff report
