Idaho’s No 1 Coeur d’ Alene too much for Wildcats

After their 48-34 win against rival Rocklin in the Quarry Bowl, Whitney High’s varsity football team took to the road to face powerhouse Coeur d’Alene in Idaho. The Vikings came in defending state champions and ranked No. 1 in Idaho, and they showed why, winning the contest 55-6. Coeur d’Alene led 24-0 after the first quarter behind the arm of quarterback Chad Chalich. Chalich connected on 23 of his 28 passes for 258 yards and four touchdowns. The Wildcats (2-1) will look to bounce back, Saturday, at Christian Brothers. Whitney wraps up preseason at home against Woodcreek, Sept. 30. JV _ The Whitney junior varsity football team traveled to Vanden High School and won 25-8, Sept. 15. The win improved the Wildcats’ record to 2-1. Quarterback Kyle McCray scored three rushing touchdowns, one for 35 yards, and another from 37 yards out. Josh Gallofin scored the other touchdown on a 9-yard run in the second quarter. Zuhair Mirza had a good game rushing, including a 41-yard run on the second play of the game. The defense played well, too. The JV squad is scheduled to play Christian Brothers, Saturday. Game time is set for 11 a.m. The varsity follows at 1 p.m.
