William Jessup University announced this week that the Warriors womens soccer team received coach and player of the year awards, and placed five players on the California Pacific Conference all-conference team. William Jessup finished the season the season 11-7, and 5-1 in conference to claim its third championship in four years. Head coach Jamie Howard was selected as the CALPAC Coach of the Year, compiling a 43-21-6 record over the last four years. She has also had 29 of her players named all-conference, and two selected as players of the year. She has had six NAIA scholar-athlete award winners. The honor of Player of the Year went to the Warriors Jacque Cassell. It was the fourth year in a row the senior was named to the all-conference team. This season she recorded nine goals, and three assists. She is now William Jessup’s all time leader in goals (27), assists (nine), and points (63). Joining Cassell on the all-conference team were teammates Lindsey Cesena, Kasey Kellogg, Elli Tremblay and Alyssa Wimmer. Cesena, from El Dorado Hills, capped a great four-year career with her fourth all-conference selection. In her final season as goalkeeper, Cesena recorded 24 saves, with only three goals allowed, while going 6-0 with three shutouts. She leaves Jessup as the top goalkeeper in school history with an 18-6-3 record that includes 10 shutouts, 17 goals against, and a GAA of 0.629. A dual threat, Cesena ranks second on the all-time career scoring list with 17 goals, five assist, and 39 points in four years. She was named CALPAC Co-MVP as a sophomore, while earning NAIA All-American honors as a sophomore and junior. Tremblay, a junior from Roseville, earned her third all-conference honor in three years. Sophomore Kellogg (Quartz Hill) earned her first selection. They both return next season to anchor a solid Warriors defense. Wimmer, also from El Dorado Hills, recorded a breakout sophomore season as she tallied seven goals, three assists, and 17 points. She will look to replace Cassell as the go-to scorer next season.
