Job fair great place to fill hiring needs
By: Robin Trimble, Rocklin Chamber of Commerce CEO
More than 2,000 expected to attend January event
The Rocklin Area Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the University of Phoenix, the Mercury and Business Advantage Network to sponsor a high-profile job fair. Scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009 at the University of Phoenix campus in Roseville, the fair is expected to attract more than 2,000 attendees. The job fair is a place for employers to fill their hiring needs for the New Year. With a captive audience of attendees, employers will have the opportunity to get résumés and information from candidates and even conduct on-the-spot interviews. Employer booths are still available, but space is filling up fast – it’s encouraged people call soon. Sponsorship opportunities are available and range in price from $100 to $1,000. The job fair is free of charge to participants and will incorporate a wide range of helpful workshops and information panels. Professionals will be on hand to review applications, cover letters and résumés and provide constructive feedback. Attendees can expect insight into specific areas of business with representatives from law enforcement, health care, tourism and hospitality. Job fair participants will have the opportunity to hear Jenny Beard of Express Employment Professionals present a workshop on this timely topic. According to Beard, being prepared and making sure you stand out in today’s competitive environment are crucial components of a successful job search. Employers want to know that you’ve taken the time to articulate what you are looking for and why you want to work for them. Applicants should treat a job fair like an interview – they need to be prepared and to create a positive first impression. Those interested in participating should come prepared to share their résumés with potential employers for area positions, or to further educate themselves and explore areas of interest for specific job sectors. This job fair has something for everyone, including workshops, panel discussions, access to local employers and professional assistance with résumés and interview preparation. And it’s all free of charge to those who attend.
