Bacharach named organizer of the year
United States Tennis Association Northern California named Cris Bacharach the junior team tennis organizer of the year at a ceremony on June 3. Bacharach, head tennis professional at Johnson Ranch Racquet Club in Roseville, has been the area league coordinator for the Sacramento Summer Junior Team Tennis League, one of the largest leagues in Northern California, for the past 15 years. Over 500 players and 65 teams participated in 2008. Bacharach also coaches in the Summer Junior Team Tennis League. He took his first tennis lesson when he was eight years old and he was hooked. He went on to become the first All American athlete to graduate from UC Santa Cruz. The Newcastle resident has been teaching tennis for more than 25 years. Junior team tennis leagues are geared towards new, recreational tennis players ages 8—15. Like youth soccer or Little League, Junior Team Tennis is a community based league run by parents, coaches and volunteers. Anyone can join. Kids are introduced to competitive tennis in a fun and easy way, and begin playing matches at their first practice session.
