ANAHEIM _ The Whitney Jr. Wildcats Midgets competition cheer squad won the grand champion award at the United Spirit Association (USA) Jr. Nationals Championship held at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim March 2.
In addition to USA Nationals, the squad also competed at the USA Regional Competition in Elk Grove Jan. 5 and the Oakmont Competition in Roseville on Jan. 19. They came away with first place in the Midgets Novice division at all three competitions.
Seven members of the squad returned from last season when the Jr. Wildcats also won the Midgets Novice division at USA Nationals. They were able to combine with 11 new members to take the Jr. Wildcats to new heights.
“This group of young ladies has exceeded our wildest expectations,” said Jr. Wildcats President Christopher Herren. “We were thrilled to see them win the award that recognizes the best execution of all the competitors at Disneyland.”
The grand champion award is given to the squad with the highest point total amongst all divisions at the competition. There were more than 70 other squads from throughout California competing in the event.
In addition to squads from Southern California and the Bay Area, several local organizations were represented at Disneyland, including Del Oro Jr. Golden Eagles, Folsom Jr. Bulldogs, Oak Ridge Jr. Trojans, Rocklin Jr. Thunder, and Woodcreek Jr. Timberwolves.
