The Whitney Jr. Wildcats Jr. Midgets put their unbeaten record on the line against the Folsom Jr. Bulldogs Saturday and improved to 7-0 on the season. Although Folsom was able to move the ball to Whitney’s 14-yard line in the early going, the Jr. Wildcats’ defense rose to the occasion. Whitney head coach Jeff Cavarra changed from a four-man front to five and opened the way for Matt Chaffin to sack the Jr. Bulldogs’ quarterback for a 5-yard loss to kill the visitor’s drive. With the ball in the Jr. Wildcats’ hands, it appeared Folsom might keep them pinned deep in Whitney territory, but it wasn’t to be. Quarterback Dom Souto connected with Colin Larson on a 40-yard pass play and the Jr. ‘Cats were in business. Jason Sanchez scored the first of his three touchdowns and Whitney went into intermission with a16-8 halftime lead. From then on it was lights out. Justin Kraft opened the second half with a 70-yard kickoff return for six. That seemed to take the wind out of Folsom’s sails. The Jr. Wildcats’ offensive line led by Tyler Hils, Preston Manley and Jace Krick took over allowing Whitney to move the ball at will. Souto and Sanchez added another 16 points to give the Jr. Midgets a 38-8 victory. Whitney didn’t punt the entire game. Next week, the Jr. Wildcats will host the Vista Jr. Eagles. The game times are an hour later beginning at 10 a.m. with the Mitey Mites. The Midgets will conclude play beginning at 6 p.m.
