WOMENS BASKETBALL The William Jessup University Lady Warriors basketball team had their best week of the season taking a pair of games to improve to 3-6 in the California Pacific Conference. At Simpson University _ William Jessup had to take the game into overtime but from there they rolled to a 60-54 win over the host Redhawks, Saturday. Sophomore Taylor Borba continued with her hot hand to lead the Warriors with 14 points. Senior Maria Viola also stepped up big time with a double-double. Viola knocked down 11 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. CSU-Maritime _ The conference No. 1 team was likely ill-prepared for the reception they received in the Warrior Dome last Thursday as the Lady Warriors upset the Keelhaulers 51-50. CSUM came into the game 7-0 in the CalPac with the No. 1 scorer in the nation – but it wouldn’t be enough. Borba began the week hitting on all eight cylinders to score 14 points and gathering in 10 boards. Viola again did her part by adding 10 points. MENS BASKETBALL Things did not go as well for the mens basketball team as the Warriors three-game win streak was broken by back-to-back losses. At Simpson University _ It appeared the Warriors would redeem their earlier loss in the week by tripping up the Redhawks in Redding, Saturday. However, the host club drained the winning shot with less than a half second on the clock to win 55-53. Senior Anthony Anderson had 14 points for WJU as the Warriors finished the week at 5-5 in the conference and 10-15 overall. CSU-Maritime _ Last week began on a sour note as the Keelhaulers claimed a 52-45 victory before the William Jessup home crowd. Senior Preston Bramow (Roseville) had a sold night scoring 19 points and clearing eight rebounds. Fellow senior Marqus Crawford had 10 points for the Warriors. This week William Jessup will host Pacific Union College, Thursday. The women tip off at 5:30 p.m., the men at 7:30. The Lady Warriors will wrap up their season, Friday, hosting UC Santa Cruz for senior night. The game is scheduled to being at 6 p.m. The men finish their season on the road against UC Merced, Saturday; that game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Reporting by Jeff Bussell, William Jessup University Sports Information Director
