Halfway through their Capital Athletic League schedule, the Whitney varsity girls soccer team now stands at 2-3 after defeating visiting Cordova 6-0 Friday.

Aliyah Utush commanded the field. The junior forward scored three goals in the Wildcats’ rout of Cordova.

Utush’s presence was felt early as she controlled the right sideline and broke away six times in the opening 10 minutes. But with only one shot on goal to show for her efforts, the Wildcats’ offense didn’t catch their first break until Lexie Dewyea scored a chip shot goal from the middle position.

However, after that goal, Dewyea was able to find Utush down the middle for a goal in the 19th minute. Utush scored again in the 35th and 49th minute of the game.

Just before the end of the half, Megan O’ Connor got in on the scoring to give the Wildcats a 5-0 lead heading into halftime.

With the game all but settled in the first 40 minutes, freshman Ashley Hunter added Whitney’s final score on a penalty kick in the final stanza.

The Wildcats will finish their season with another cycle through the CAL schedule. The ‘Cats will host Antelope (3-0-1) Wednesday (April 17) to start the final five games.

The last time Whitney played Antelope, the Titans were able to defend their own field with a 2-1 win.
