Tri-City and Lincoln faced each other in Game 2 of the District 11, Area1, Juniors All Stars Tournament Friday with Lincoln earning an 8-2 win. The two clubs were scoreless in the first two innings but both teams broke into the scoring column in the third inning when Josh Clark scored after getting on with a base hit. Lincoln then pulled away in innings four and five. Lincoln?s Daniel Leyva provided much of his club?s firepower driving in four of his team?s runs. Lincoln pounded out nine hits in the contest. ?My team helped me keep it together even if I made a bad play,? said the 13-year-old Leyva. Lincoln took a 3-1 lead in the fourth and then pushed five more runs across the plate in the fifth inning to provide the margin of victory. The Lincoln nine used aggressive base running to keep Tri-City off balance. Tri-City?s defense was up to the task but the offense could only produce four hits. ?We had one rough inning and that proved to be the difference,? said Tri-City coach John McGrath. Kyle Benoit scored both of Tri-City?s runs. He said he just kept his head up and tried to put the ball in play. Denise Benoit, Kyle?s mother, said her son plays better under pressure. McGrath said he liked the way his team didn?t give up scoring their final run in the seventh inning. But he acknowledged his club now has to make the long climb to reach the championship round. ?We have more work to do,? he said. Lincoln is scheduled to play today against the winner of Monday?s matchup between Rocklin and Auburn. Auburn defeated Bear River 11-4 in Game 1 of the tournament. Tri-City moved into the elimination round against Bear River Tuesday night. The season will be over for the team losing that game.
