Locals can enjoy a Saturday brunch while helping to find a cure for diabetes during “The Perfect Brunch.” With a 14-year-old son who has been battling diabetes since the tender age of five, local author Brenda Novak is teaming up with involved community partners to present an upscale fundraising event, “The Perfect Brunch,” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at Mercedez-Benz of Rocklin. The event will include brunch, giveaways, live and silent auctions and raffle prizes that include an 18-carat diamond ring from local jeweler Michael Greene & Co. Net proceeds from the fundraising event will help fund a cure for diabetes and will go directly to the Diabetes Research Institute. Over the years, Novak has been very active in raising awareness for the need for diabetes research and supporting the cause. In fact, through her annual online auction held May 1-31 on her website, she has raised more than $1 million, thanks to the generosity of her readers, fans and supporters. New in 2011, “The Perfect Brunch” adds yet another fundraising layer to her efforts and the goal is to continue the event for years to come. Tickets for “The Perfect Brunch” cost $40 per person and are available at, at Arden Hills Resort Club & Spa, 1220 Arden Hills Lane in Sacramento, and at the Mercedes-Benz dealership, 4747 Granite Drive in Rocklin. Tickets will be available through May 8. For more information, call (916) 234-3160. ~Staff report
