Local football players to be honored by National Football Foundation

Five high school football players from Roseville and Granite Bay will be among 26 honored by the Sacramento Valley Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.

Nick Blaser and Beau Smith of Roseville and Cory Brehm, Matt Kasner and Andrew Wright of Granite Bay will be honored March 10 at a dinner in Sacramento.

A minimum grade-point average of 3.0 was required for the scholar-athlete award. The honorees are to be provided with a tuxedo for the event, and they receive a medal and certificate and take a group photo, according to Sylvia Havens of the Sacramento Valley Chapter.

Track club to hold three-day camp
The Revolution Express Track Club of Roseville will hold a Run, Jump, Throw Camp on Tuesday through Thursday, March 1-3, at Rocklin High School.

The camp is open to boys and girls ages 7-18 and 6-year-old first-graders. The camp is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. each day and costs $45 per camper. Registration will be held from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, at the Rocklin High track. Campers should wear running shorts and shoes and a T-shirt and should bring sweat pants and shirt and water.

Campers will participate in running (three-point starts, relay baton handoffs, hurdle technique and form); throwing (discus, shot put, turbo javelin); long, triple and high jumps; the pole vault; and race-walking.

Tennis Night at Mahany courts
The Roseville Community Tennis Association for the first time is hosting Tennis Night in America at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at the Mahany courts in Roseville.

Youth players will have the opportunity during the event to sign up for RCTA spring and summer programs, including leagues and team tennis. The event is sponsored by the United States Tennis Association.

RCTA professional instructors are scheduled to conduct free clinics and demonstrations.
