Local Jr. Thunder player plays in Shrine Bowl XVIIBy: Staff Report
Rocklin’s Jordan Castor was selected by the Shrine Bowl coaches to participate in the East-West Youth Shrine Bowl XVII game played in the Citrus Bowl, Orlando, Fla., Dec. 2. Each year, youth football teams from the Sacramento Valley nominate players for consideration.
Castor was a standout performer for the Jr. Thunder Midgets and did not disappoint. Playing defensive tackle, Castor forced three fumbles in the game, recovered a fumble and blocked a punt to help the West defeat the East 39-12.
However, Castor’s selection was not based solely on his ability to play football. The Shriners also consider a player’s community involvement. This year’s all-star team helped raise over $50,000 for Shrine Hospitals.
Castor said the best thing about his experience was helping Shrine Hospital children while also playing football.
Castor, and players like him, is a credit to the community, Sierra Football and Cheer and the Jr. Thunder.
