Local soccer players gather to sign Letters of IntentBy: Staff Report
LOOMIS _ Six seniors from local high schools were scheduled to sign Letters of Intent to play soccer at various colleges and universities. Two seniors from the area have committed to playing soccer for Sierra College next season.
All the players honed the skills they are taking to the next level playing for Placer United Soccer Club.
Three athletes from Whitney High School, Tara Armstrong, Brittney Neumann and Nicholas Schnable have made their commitments. Armstrong will sign to play at Texas Lutheran University, Neumann takes her skills to Bethany College in Kansas and Schnable will head for Carson to play for California State University – Dominguez Hills.
Molly McConnell, who is also a member of the Whitney basketball team, will play soccer for Sierra’s Wolverines.
Three seniors from Del Oro, Marisa Grattan, Jessica Hinsken and Kaleigh Landberg will also sign letters. Grattan will attend the U.S. Air Force Academy, Hinsken Dominican University, San Rafael and Landberg heads for Santa Barbara and Westmont College.
The Golden Eagles’ Kristen Gratten will play at Sierra College.
“I have had the privilege of working with these extraordinary young people and seeing them not only grow as exceptional players, but as exceptional people,” said Ron Benjamin, director of girls coaching at Placer United. “They love the game and their hard work both on and off the field will no doubt take them far in their college careers.”
