Susan Belknap, current editor of the Roseville Press-Tribune has been named the new editor of the Placer Herald newspaper, a position that became effective Monday. Press-Tribune staff writer Lauren Weber joins her as associate editor and Ashley Baer will be the staff’s part-time photographer. “ I’m really looking forward to learning about the many facets of Rocklin and what the community wants their paper to be,” Belknap said. Juggling the demands and deadlines of two newspapers is a task that Belknap is anticipating will consist of splitting her time between the two communities. “I think it’s going to work out fine. I’ll just work on each paper a bit everyday,” she said. Belknap plans to make several trips to Rocklin in the coming weeks to get acquainted and learn as much as possible about the community as she can. “Rocklin is a community that really cares about what’s going on, the local elections, their schools… they are very involved.” Belknap said. “I know there are lots of stories to tell.” Lauren Weber, a staff writer from The Press-Tribune joins Belknap at the Placer Herald as associate editor and will be in the Rocklin office daily ready to cover whatever is happening in the community. Weber said she feels that her experience writing for The Press-Tribune has prepared her for this next step in her career. She has covered a wide array of topics during her tenure at the Roseville paper as well as some editing and page design. “I’m mostly just looking forward to getting to know what goes on in Rocklin,” Weber said. “It’s a small community and people are really involved in it.” Weber is a graduate of Chico State and has written for the Granite Bay View, Rocklin View and the Roseville and Granite Bay Homes Magazine in addition to her experience at The Press-Tribune. Weber said she is proud and thankful for the work she has done for The Press-Tribune but is anxious to begin anew in Rocklin. “I’m going to miss the events and community in Roseville, but I’m going to be gaining new ones in Rocklin…I’m excited,” Weber said. Baer also assumed her duties for The Placer Herald earlier this week. Baer will divide her time between the Herald, The Roseville Press-Tribune and the Auburn Journal newspapers. Baer, 22, graduated from the University of Oregon in 2008, where she was a photographer for the nationally award-winning Flux magazine. The Placer Herald newspaper is part of the Gold Country Media group of community newspapers throughout Placer County and surrounding areas. The paper’s parent company, Brehm Communications Inc., is based in San Diego. At present, Brehm owns more than 60 daily, weekly and semiweekly publications.
