No takers at Sunset Whitney auction

Rocklin country club goes back to the bank

Sunset Whitney Country Club in Rocklin remains open and running despite not receiving any bids at last week’s auction. The bidding started at $2.805 million, but there were no offers, according to Mike Huetter, the general manager of Sunset Whitney Country Club. The club went back into the hands of the bank, which hired a management company to run the course until a new owner was found. Sunset Whitney, located on Midas Avenue, went up for auction Aug. 26 after the previous owner, developer Thomas Holdings, LLC of Sacramento, struggled to keep up with high payments. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January. The 18-hole, 6,600-yard course has strived to keep members, but Huetter said he’s optimistic with its future. “The golf course is in great shape,” he said. “Members and employees are very happy that it’s still open.” ~Lauren Weber
